David Brown – a con man? You decide…16
Southfield Office Condominiums website was developed in September 2011 at the request of so called Rev. Dr. David A. Brown Jr., for the newly formed LLC – Southfield Office Condominiums, owned by David Brown and Andrea Brown (Cooper).
The website was advertising for sale or lease the offices in the Blue Cross Blue Shields Buildings in Southfield, which David A Brown Jr. led everyone to believe he was in the process of purchasing, claim made plausible by David Brown
- establishing offices in the Blue Cross Buildings
- being given access to come and go as he pleased, and having guests come and go to his offices
- employing people to work starting Nov 1st, with binding legal contracts
- signing maintenance contracts for different services (security, cafeteria, convenience store, credit union, possibly others)
- signing lease agreements for spaces in the Blue Cross buildings like: Shoe Shine Shop or building 400 Cafeteria and keeping lease deposits
- signing lease agreements for 5 yrs and taking deposits from non-profits for floors in buildings he did not own
- even providing pictures and content (pilfered from other sites) to develop a website advertising the offices for sale
Under the false assumptions that David Brown perpetuated, people quit their jobs to come work for David Brown’s LLC, put in countless hours of work (legal work, construction planning, marketing), and handed him checks and cash for partnerships, cars , office leases, to buy other buildings and possibly more.
As of today, none of the claims made by David Brown materialized: no building purchases (not even deposits!), contractors and employees were not paid, no cars, no offices, no returning the money he wrongly took.
Was this one elaborate Con?
We have very serious reasons to believe so. Not just that David Brown lied about his ability to purchase the buildings, chances are he lied about everything else, to everyone. Including him being a Reverend, MD or having a PHD.
All deadlines he ever set (closings to purchase buildings, to return money he accepted under false pretenses, to pay employment wages, to pay for services, etc) have come to pass without anything ever happening, or should I say they were postponed many, many times in typical David fashion.
His fantastic stories, were just that: Andrea Maria Cooper, aka Andrea M Brown aka “The Boss” is not his wife of thirty some years. In fact, Andrea is 41 and from Detroit – Highland Park, while David is 49 and likely from New York. Also, on May 16 2009, David A. Brown, known then as Daviano A. Bruno (Daviano Bruno), had just married a so called Margarita Villanueva from New York. While his address in New York changed frequently, it was always cheap apartments in low income neighborhoods (presently a small apartment in Harlem with rent in the $1000/mo range).
This may not be news for many of you, but if it is, I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news. David Brown abused our time, resources, and took our money. As lives were affected by his actions, idleness is not an option.

This situation is pretty sad. Rev Dr. David A. Brown (or whatever his name is) obviously has some real intelligence but unfortunately he used his potential in the most insidious of ways. I don’t know if he started this project out as a “Harlem Nights” con or if he really thought that he might be able to pull of a “coup” (as he often described the deal). I must assume that he and his accomplice had ill will from the beginning or else they would have used their real names.
Actually, David often had Freudian slips in our meetings. He was getting so cocky that he made statements such as “there are hustlers and then there are HUSTLERS. The only difference is the game. I’m always on the move to make money in this real estate game.”
His stories have put good people in some very bad positions. People turned down jobs because he specifically told them that he had this long list of clients that he needed them to handle. Fortunately, I only took a personal loss of about $300 (monies that I offered towards license training) but he was constantly pushing for greater access to my network of business associates. I have to admit that I had high hopes for where the relationship might go but the more time I spent with him the more pessimistic (and observant) I became about his behavior.
I started to notice that he would often try to schedule impromptu meetings to discuss “special projects” that he didn’t want shared with anyone else; and they would always be outside of the office. After he “shutdown” the office in tower 300 (which the reasoning sounded plausible at the time) continued to escalate to a series of reasons for why he didn’t want to return to the office for scheduled meetings. It became so overt that when he called us to set up our last “I Spy” meeting at well-known establishment in Canton, Michigan, we challenged him regarding why he always using the “Mission Impossible” meeting protocol.
I guess the strategy worked in the short-term because so many people involved with the project are upset and disappointed. I personally don’t know the amounts of money that were involved with other transactions because so many rumors of grandeur were floating about. If it is proven to be a con as alleged (and not simply horrible business execution), it is an awful lot of effort for a little small return on investment.
I guess we’ll see what happens. Either way it goes, I doubt if I’ll ever see my $300 again. I hope that everyone else can become whole and move beyond this gross miscarriage of time, money and effort.

Facto…. BCBSM security at Metro did their job repeatedly and refused Daviano and his “IT guy” access to secured areas (data rooms etc.), only to be over ruled, behind their backs by higher BCBSM management. We ALL understand the HIPPA rules, but Daviano made a phone call and the doors flew open!
Why did the Equis guys (the brokers) follow Daviano around like puppy dogs for 6 months and listen to him scam people on a daily basis? Nail salon, a bank, barber shop, 7 floors of the 300 building sold to Con-Edison of NY, the 400 building being “given” to The New Beginnings Church?
Does channel 7 have to investigate this?
David is supposedly the President & CEO at New Beginnings Ministries (per their linked in page and also straight from the horse’s mouth). He may have needed it so he could pretend to be a “reverend”. As far as selling floors to Con-Edison, how likely is that??? This guy didn’t even put one cent down on the Metro buildings, and he was already selling them!!! According to him, 90% of the space was sold as of September. But then, according to him, he was also an honest business man, a multimillionaire, a reverend, a doctor, fathered 12 children, married Andrea when he was 15…
Who at BCBSM let this man run his scam from behind the desk in the Southfield office of CEO Daniel J. Loepp! Yes, he ran this con from the same chair in which the BCBSM CEO sat in before he, Mr. Loepp announced that he was having a “fire sale” to dispose of the Southfield properties to move 3000 employees to Detroit. Mr. Brown, (Bruno?) was given carte blanche to meet with and walk his marks through BCBSM secured areas for “showings” of the property.
As for Andrea? She has a BCBSM I.D. because she is employed by, and put your seat belt on, the Corporate Financial Investigations department!! YES, the people who investigate FRAUD for BCBSM!

It seems that the brokers and BCBS were really the enablers, they did not do due diligence to check whether this man had the funds to purchase the buildings before setting him up in an office, giving him whatever furniture he saw and said to them he wants in “his” office, allowing him to run free thru the supposedly HIPPA secure buildings, many times unescorted as well, walking him to still working floors and saying hi to everyone like he was their best friend.
For 3 months he had 3 actual offices, a conference room and a waiting area and 2 broker representatives to shuttle people to “his” office, and an office out of which by the end of the 3 months there were 10 other people working daily out of – 3 other businesses were now getting their own customers brought up to the office like it was a normal thing and he was the new owner allowing them to operate out of “his” office.
Yes, I confirmed that Andrea Cooper Brown is a secretary employed by BCBS in the Corporate Financial Investigations department.
it is hard for me to contemplate a man so contemptible that he would hurt so many innocent young people, without regard to their well being. You are probably their first meeting with the underbelly of this country. I wish you everything you deserve.
And a “Reverend” to boot… by the way can anyone verify the Colleges that he claimed he graduated from? they are listed in his LinkedIn profile… don’t worry I have a copy I will post here shortly as well.
